Congratulations to Varsity wrestler Michael Wilson who placed fourth and qualifies for this weekend‘s Masters wrestling tournament in Stockton Arena. Riley Gibson and Seth Goodman both placed fifth, one place away from qualifying for the tournament.

 

MCHS is excited to announce 3 of our teams will be hosting HOME playoff games this week.  Our athletes need your support to cheer them to a WIN! ASB cards do not work for playoff games.

Tuesday night Girl's basketball will play Green Academy at 7pm

Wednesday night Boys Basketball will take on Hughs Academy at 7pm

Wednesday night Girl's Soccer will battle Rio Vista at 6:00

Congratulations Mariposa Parli Pro. Team members of the Advanced team placed 6th at Chico Invitational on Monday, Novice did well but did not make the final round.

 

Congratulations to the girls and boys JV and Varsity basketball teams for all going undefeated in the Southern League and winning the Southern League championship.  The four teams went a combined 46-0 in league.  Thanks to our student body for your incredible support during the season.  Playoffs begin next week.

Congratulations to the Mariposa Wrestling team who placed first in the league four years in a row and five times within the past six years. Congratulations to the FFA members who competed  in the Merced Mariposa Sectional Project Competition and attended the awards banquet last night. Jake Swift earned gold, Makinna Dulcich earned gold and a merit award, Mackenzie Arnold gold, Jaq Quinn gold, Robbie Stark gold, Cali Butler gold and Gauge Butler silver.   Congratulations

Academic Decathlon had a great year.  In the regional competition Saturday in Sonora, the team scored 13 medals: Tyler Mangan won a Bronze in Art, Dakota Petrich won a Bronze in Music, Ruby Yager won a Silver in Social Science, Sami Norman won a Silver in Math, Hannah Sweiki won Bronze in Speech, Silver in Literature, and Silver in Essay, and Ava Dunlavey won 6 medals, Bronze in Art, Music and Social Science; and Gold medals in Speech, Interview, and Science! Good Job Grizzlies!

 

Winter Formal is coming up! It will be on Feb. 15th and the theme is A Night Out of this World! ASB is selling tickets!

Track and Field Athletes: Monday Feb. 5th, is the 1st day of practice. Make sure you are cleared with the office before coming to practice. Come to the upper field dressed and ready to work out. Practice starts at 3:14.

 

Attention softball players:  Tryouts will be Monday 2/5 at 3:15 for all athletes NOT playing in a winter sport.  You must be cleared through Mrs. Chase to tryout.  If you are playing a winter sport, your tryout will take place AFTER your season is over. You must also be cleared for softball prior to trying out.

Track and Field Athletes: Monday Feb. 5th, is the 1st day of practice. Make sure you are cleared with the office before coming to practice. Come to the upper field dressed and ready to work out. Practice starts at 3:14.

 

Attention softball players:  Tryouts will be Monday 2/5 at 3:15 for all athletes NOT playing in a winter sport.  You must be cleared through Mrs. Chase to tryout.  If you are playing a winter sport, your tryout will take place AFTER your season is over. You must also be cleared for softball prior to trying out.

Sign up in the Counseling Office. Free lunch to the first 40 students. Get your questions answered about becoming a medical doctor.

Please remember to bring your ID or ASB card to the Learning Center when checking out a textbook or a chromebook.  When checking out a chromebook please remember to return it by the end of the day so it can be charged and ready for the next student to use.

Are you eligible to join the California Scholarship Federation this semester? CSF is the state's oldest Honor Society and is recognized by Colleges.  Freshman are now eligible based on Fall grades. Lists of CSF-eligible students are posted outside the Counseling Office, and applications are available inside.  Please request transcripts from Ms. Weinburke, and turn in your application and 5 dollar dues BEFORE the first meeting of the new year, which will be  Wednesday, January  24th in Room 9.

 

Come and join the Ukulele Club, next Wednesday January 24th in the auditorium at lunch.  All are welcome.  We will be learning some basic and not-so-basic tricks.  Some extra ukuleles are available if you don't have your own.

Students who have outside lockers, listen closely. Beginning today, the outside breezeway gates will be locked during break and lunch on a daily basis. You will not have access to lockers during break or lunch. You have the option to obtain a locker in the main building.  Again, nobody will have access to outside lockers during break or lunch. The Fresno State Young Writers' Conference is an opportunity for student writers to have their work published in the Spectrum anthology; earn cash awards, honors and recognition for their writing, learn creative writing techniques by graduate students; as well as, hear Mai Der Vang, a published poet and winner of the 2016 Walt Whitman Award from the Academy of American Poets, speak about the craft of writing.  Fresno State's Master's in Creative Writing is a nationally recognized program and has produced two United States' Poet Laureates, the ultimate accolade for an American Poet.  If you are interested in attending the conference, come to a mandatory meeting Friday at lunch in room 53 to find out what you need to do to attend.

The Fresno State Young Writers' Conference is an opportunity for student writers to have their work published in the Spectrum anthology; earn cash awards, honors and recognition for their writing, learn creative writing techniques by graduate students; as well as, hear Mai Der Vang, a published poet and winner of the 2016 Walt Whitman Award from the Academy of American Poets, speak about the craft of writing.  Fresno State's Master's in Creative Writing is a nationally recognized program and has produced two United States' Poet Laureates, the ultimate accolade for an American Poet.  If you are interested in attending the conference, come to a mandatory meeting Friday at lunch in room 53 to find out what you need to do to attend.

ABC's next Career Lunch is Today, January 11th.  Kevin Cann, Mariposa County District IV supervisor, which includes the town of Mariposa, will explain his path to becoming a supervisor, as well as his experience with the National Park Service for more than 20 years.

Grizzly Football Awards Banquet & BBQ will be held on Sunday December 17, 2017 starting at 1 pm in Building B at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds.  Players, team managers and family guests are free.  All players and team managers need to pick up a flyer in Coach Stitt's room during lunch.  Players and team managers will need to wear game day attire (button up shirt, tie and slacks) to the banquet.  Anyone who has not turned in their gear or payed their gear fine will not be eligible to receive their letter or any special awards.  Any questions contact Coach O or Coach Stein.

Please remember to bring your ID or ASB card to the Learning Center when checking out a textbook or a chromebook.  When checking out a chromebook please remember to return it by the end of the day so it can be charged and ready for the next student to use.

HAPPENING TODAY

MCHS ASB has started this year's Adopt a Family.  MCHS is working with Mountain Crisis to help families this Holiday Season.  We are currently collecting items and donations.  For more information about items and donations, see this week’s newsletter.  Donations can be dropped off in English classes, and in Mr. Moczygemba’s room, room 51.

 

The annual MCHS Chorus will be having a joint Winter Concert with the MCHS Band this evening at 7:00 in the Fiester auditorium.

 

It's that time of year for you Frenchies to don your joie de Noel.  Come to the French Club meeting today at lunch in room 53 to organize and find out about this year's French Club Christmas party.

The next Career Lunch is tomorrow in the learning center. Interested in Government? This is a great opportunity to find out what it takes to get a government position. Pizza is provided for first 40 students. Sign up in the Counseling office or check your email!

CLUB NEWS

There will be a trap shooting meeting tonight at the Fish and Game Hall in Bootjack. Anyone who wants to shoot should come so they can fill out the registration paperwork.  The meeting starts at 6:00.

 

Due to scheduling conflicts, there will be no Dance Club for the remainder of the semester.  We will resume in January.  See Mrs. Bobman if you have any questions.

 

Spanish Club T-shirt orders are due by December 15th through the group order form link that the President can and will provide.  Payments can be made through this link.

 

FFA NEWS

 

HOMEWORK HELP & TUTORING AVAILABLE

The Learning Center is open at 7:45 before school and at lunch to check out books, work on homework, print out homework, get help with homework, or make an appointment for tutoring. Mrs. Long is ready to help you. The Learning Center is open after school every day until 4:15 for homework time or tutoring services.

Please remember to bring your ID or ASB card to the Learning Center when checking out a textbook or a chromebook.  When checking out a chromebook please remember to return it by the end of the day so it can be charged and ready for the next student to use.
