Join the MCHS Improv Troupe 'Grizzly Got Your Tongue?' for an evening of laughter and audience participation as we raise money for Hank Savage.  Help us support Hank the Tank as he continues to battle leukemia. $5 donation at the door this Friday, April 27th at 7 p.m. Snacks will be available for sale from SAGA.  This show is Rated PG.

 

This year the MCHS SAGA Club will sponsoring the National Day of Silence this Friday 4/27 to highlight the silencing effect that bullying and harassment have on LGBT youth here and around the world. To participate, sign-up in Room 26, Mr Jewell’s room. You do not need to be a SAGA member to participate but you do need to sign up.

 

There will be a quick Dance Club meeting at the beginning of lunch on Friday in room 28.  Please stop by to provide some quick information. It should only take a few minutes.

Save the date! Prom will be held on May 12, 2018 from 6-11pm at KAL Estates. Early Bird ticket sales are on April 26th to April 27th and will cost $65 with an ASB Card and $70 without. Regular ticket sales are on May 1st to May 9th and will cost $70 with an ASB Card and $75 without. Guest passes are due no later than May 4th. The colors are deep blue, midnight black, and silver. The theme is Tonight We Dance Under the Stars!

Join Rotary Interact during lunch on Wednesday April 24th, in Ms. Monson's classroom to find out how you can help plan out the upcoming pet parade! Your support is greatly appreciated. Please note: if you have never participated in events with the club, but want to help, or if you simply wish to experience what the club is about, you are more than welcome to attend the meeting.

 

Enrollment is underway for NatureBridge Summer Backpacking programs! If you are interested in a one-week or two-week program in Yosemite and Olympic National Parks that offer the perfect combination of backpacking, science, and adventure stop by the counseling office!

Seniors, the box seats for graduation are on sale now in the counseling office.  The cost is $5 each and you can buy up to 10 seats, 1st come, 1st served. The revenue will be added to your senior points total.  Four seats equal 1 senior point.

The Learning Center is open at 7:45 before school and at lunch to check out books, work on homework, print out homework, get help with homework, or make an appointment for tutoring. Mrs. Long is ready to help you. The Learning Center is open after school every day until 4:15 for homework time or tutoring services.

 

Please remember to bring your ID or ASB card to the Learning Center when checking out a textbook or a chromebook.  When checking out a chromebook please remember to return it by the end of the day so it can be charged and ready for the next student to use.

Congratulations to the Track and Field Team: Saturday at the Bret Harte Invitational, the 21 athletes that participated had 30 personal records and came home with 4 medals.

Just a reminder that ASB Applications are due tomorrow, Wednesday April 25 for all students interested in elected and appointed offices.  Mr. Moczygemba will be in his room at lunch to collect applications and answer any last questions you may have. Another strong showing for the Grizzly Swim Team against Cereres and Central valley High Schools yesterday.  Parker Jones finished second in the 200 free and 1st in the 200 IM. Coury Jones finished first in the 200 free with a time of 2:11.96 and first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:06.97.  Both of these swims allowed Coury to add two more CIF sectional qualifying times to her line up.

HAPPENING TODAY

This past weekend two of our MCHS swimmers competed in the frosh-soph division of the Clovis West High School Invitational.  It is one of the largest High School meets in the nation and this year it was attended by over 1,300 swimmers. On Friday, MacKenzie Arnold came in second in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:50.05 which is her personal best and also allowed her to achieve her CIF sectional cut.  On Saturday, Trish Flanagan swam personal best times and came in 1st in both the 200 free and the 100 free. She broke the 1:00 barrier in the 100 free, going 59.74, just missing the CIF cut. However, her time of 2:09.55 in the 200 free allowed her achieve a CIF sectional qualifying time.  Congrats girls!!

 

Are you interested in being a part of ASB next year as an elected or appointed officer?  If so, there will be an informational meeting this Wednesday, April 11 at Lunch in Mr. Moczygemba's room.  Perspective AND current ASB members that are interested in being a part of ASB should attend to get an application packet and information about the application and election process.  Check you email later this week for more information from Mr. Moczygemba.

Attention all Seniors.  It is nearly time to order the Disney Grad Night Tickets.  Any student who has not earned at least 2 senior points, must deposit $40 toward your ticket.  Then total cost is $240. You MUST bring a charged chrome book to the meeting to vote. Voting is how you sign in for the meeting. No chromebook equals no FFA point. Students running for chapter office you need to be in full FFA uniform and in Croft court no later than 5:45

Congratulations to advanced  for placing 1st at the Central Region Parli Pro Contest last Friday.  Advanced team Audrey Ogilive Chair 1 -- Grace Flanagan Chair 2 --Montana Phillips Chair 3-- all earned high chairs.  The Advanced team will continue on to the State Contest in April. The Novice Team did not move on despite having some of their best scores of the year.  They missed 4th place by 2 points in a very competitive battle with Atwater, Pittman, and Galt.

HAPPENING TODAY 

Our MCHS swim team started their WAC league season opener against Livingston and Central High Schools off very strongly.  They placed 1st in both of their relays which included the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay.  Coury Jones placed 2nd in the 100 breaststroke as did Trish Flanagan in the 50 and 100 free.  First place finishes included Parker Jones in the 200 IM and the 100 fly, Mackenzie Arnold in the 200 free and 100 back, and Coury Jones in the 500 free.  Coury's time of 5:51 in the 500 free qualified her for our CIF sectional meet.

 

Local scholarships are due completed to Mrs. Weinburke in the counseling department.  The deadline is Friday March 16th.

Ladies, come check out hundreds of beautiful dresses that are available for you to borrow for Prom for a small donation. Many new dresses have been added, and there will be a raffle for free Prom tickets, coupons, beauty appointments, and more! Today doors open at lunch until 5pm, and on the 10th from 9am to 12pm. Ladies, come check out hundreds of beautiful dresses that are available for you to borrow for Prom for a small donation. Many new dresses have been added, and there will be a raffle for free Prom tickets, coupons, beauty appointments, and more! Doors open at lunch on the 9th until 5pm, and on the 10th from 9am to 12pm. Make sure to stop by and try on some dresses!

 

Prom is just around the corner! Ladies, are you feeling confident with your formal make-up skills? Do you know how to contour? Do you know what shade works best for your eyes? if not come to Prom Faire and see Senior Jessica Noguera, she will be showing and teaching tips and tricks for your best makeup at Prom.  There will also be a free drawing for three lucky ladies to win a Prom Day make-up session by a pro makeup artist.

The girls basketball team earned the #8 seed in the Northern California basketball tournament and will host Central section champion Chowchilla this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $9.00 for adults and $5 for students. Come support the grizzlies and help them move on to the quarter-finals! Tickets will be sold at the door starting at 5:00. If you plan to attend the game, get your tickets early!

Spanish Club is selling homemade bracelets and bags to support Artisans in Nicaragua from March 5th to March 19th through The Pulsera Project.  There will be a table set up at lunch so come check them out. Each bracelet is $5 and each bag is $10, proceeds support funding and education in Nicaragua.

Congratulations to Advanced and Novice Parli Pro for both placing 1st at the Merced Mariposa Sectional Contest last night. Advanced team Savannah Smith chairman, Audrey Ogilvie Chair 1, Montana Phillips Chair 3, Morgan James Chair 4 all earned high chairs. Novice team Noe Patterson chairman, chair 2 Raquel Robinson, chair 3 Cyrus Sberna, chair 4 Trevor McClard and chair 5 Lucas Pieper-White also earned high chairs. The girls basketball teams 19 game winning streak came to an end last night as they lost to Colfax 61-39 in the section semi-finals.  The team qualified for the Northern California basketball championship and will play next Wednesday night.  Way to go Grizzly Girls!

The Soroptimist Prom Faire is coming up soon! It will be on Friday, March 9th, and Saturday, March 10th, in the MCHS Learning Center. Ladies, come check out hundreds of beautiful dresses that are available for you to borrow for Prom for a small donation. Many new dresses have been added, and there will be a raffle for free Prom tickets, coupons, beauty appointments, and more! Doors open at lunch on the 9th until 5pm, and on the 10th from 9am to 12pm. Make sure to stop by and try on some dresses!

 

Students interested in biology and the natural sciences should come to the counseling office to learn about a six week summer research opportunity at UC Davis. (1x)

Congratulation to the Grizzly girls basketball team as they defeated Summerville 54-52 to advance to the Division 5 Section Semi-finals.  The girls play Colfax today for a section final berth at 7:00pm.  Go Grizzlies! Girls are released at 11:15. They are leaving at 11:30

 

Due the the 2 hour delay this morning the counseling office will be rescheduling the PSAT 9. Students will be alerted when the new test date is set.

Congratulations to the girls basketball team as they defeated Greene Academy 69-39 to advance to the quarter-finals of the division 5 basketball playoffs.  The Lady Grizzlies will travel to Summerville Thursday to take on the Bears.

 

Tonight there are 2 play-off games. Girl's Soccer will battle Rio Vista at 6:00 and then Boys Basketball will take on Hughs Academy at 7pm.

Congratulations to Varsity wrestler Michael Wilson who placed fourth and qualifies for this weekend‘s Masters wrestling tournament in Stockton Arena. Riley Gibson and Seth Goodman both placed fifth, one place away from qualifying for the tournament.

 

MCHS is excited to announce 3 of our teams will be hosting HOME playoff games this week.  Our athletes need your support to cheer them to a WIN! ASB cards do not work for playoff games.

Congratulations Mariposa Parli Pro. Team members of the Advanced team placed 6th at Chico Invitational on Monday, Novice did well but did not make the final round.

 

Congratulations to the girls and boys JV and Varsity basketball teams for all going undefeated in the Southern League and winning the Southern League championship.  The four teams went a combined 46-0 in league.  Thanks to our student body for your incredible support during the season.  Playoffs begin next week.
