Quick Reminder: There is no school on Monday.

 

Do you drive to school? Do you want the best parking space around? Tired of the hike from your car to your classes? Next week, you can buy tickets for an opportunity to win your own reserved parking space in the visitor parking section right in front of the school. All students are eligible to purchase a ticket. Tickets for this month will be sold Tuesday through Friday at lunch near the main building entrance. The winner will be announced the following Monday and will receive a special parking permit for the month of October. Don't forget to buy your tickets!

 

Food Service News: Students with a negative balance need to pay on their accounts.  If you are unsure of the balances on your accounts, please feel free to ask one of the food service employees when you get your meals.

 

Would you like to travel to Quebec and Montreal next summer to walk through Old Montreal, taste the offerings of a maple sugar shack, and practice speaking French?  If so, please come to an informational meeting on Wednesday at lunch in room 53.  (This is not a school-sponsored event).

Student Tutors Wanted! One Mariposa Project is a non-profit organization that offers tutoring for students in Mariposa County Schools. Currently, they are seeking student volunteers to provide tutoring in math and reading at MES and MCHS. This program will start October 8th. Sign up sheet located in the counseling office. (10/8)

 

Career Lunches are back!! Are you thinking about a career in Healthcare? Interested in how much income does a Physician, Nurse or Physical Therapist earn?  What experience and education is required? Come and enjoy a free lunch sponsored by the Academic Booster Club on Wednesday, October, 5th, whilst listening to Representatives from John C. Fremont Healthcare District present information on several direct patient care professions.  Including: Nursing Assistant, Home Health Assistant, Emergency Room Tech, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Physician, Phlebotomist, Laboratory Scientist, X-ray Technologist, Respiratory Technician, Physical Therapist, and Physical Therapist Assistant.

Sign up ahead of time in the Counseling Office. The first 40 students to sign up receive a free lunch. Everyone is welcome. The annual Yosemite student art and poetry contest is here! Entries can be dropped off with Mr. Bothwell in room 7. All students are encouraged to submit their unique Yosemite-themed work to win cash and prizes. (?)

Attention Juniors and Seniors – the ASVAB test, which is a career exploration assessment, will be given on October 5th from 8am to 11:30am. This assessment will enable you to learn more about a career that is right for you. Please sign up in the counseling office by October 1st. The first 70 students will be accepted. (10/1)

 

Attention ALL students - Are you interested in going to college or pursuing a career after high school? Would you like to know where to start? MCHS is hosting a College and Career night for students and parents on Tuesday, September 27 at 6pm in the auditorium. Come out and discover what comes next after MCHS. (9/27)

 

The PSAT (which stands for practice SAT) will be given to 10th and 11th grade students on Wednesday, October 19, in the morning.  Sign ups are in the counseling office. Deadline to sign up is Friday, October 14. You must pay the $16.00 fee at the time of sign up in order to get your PSAT study guide.  This is an important test for those planning to go to college.  Eleventh graders can qualify for scholarship opportunities through the PSAT and it is important to study to do well. Order your Drama Club t-shirt for the 2016-2017 school year.  Three different styles available ranging from $13-$18.  Shirt design includes all four class colors: black, white, green, and gold so buy yours today for that spirited look!  Pick up an order form from Mr. Starchman in Room 1 or print one out under the Drama Club tab at www.grizzlycinema.com  All orders must be made by TODAY. French Club members - If you would like to buy a French Club t-shirt this year, please order through Mrs. Dobson.  The cost of the shirt is $15 and must be paid for by TODAY.  Checks can be made payable to MCHS. (9/23)

The list of students who qualify for this semester based on last spring's grades are posted inside the Counseling Office. Please pick up an application from the counter in the Counseling Office and fill it out returning it with the $5.00 dues by TODAY. We will be having our first meeting TODAY at lunch in room 9. All students interested in attending the Stanford University art museum field trip in Palo Alto on Saturday, October 1st, please stop by room 7 at the beginning of lunch for a brief meeting. (9/21)

 

Audition packets will be available for the first play of the year 'The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet' on Wednesday at lunch in Room 1.  Come by to pick up your packet and ask Mr. Starchman any questions you may have about the process.  Auditions will take place Monday, October 3rd in the auditorium. About MCHS

Mariposa County High School is located in the rural community of Mariposa, California, and is a center of county-wide community activities. The high school provides facilities for academic, cultural, and entertainment activities for the high school population as well as the community at large. Mariposa County is the home of Yosemite National Park, which attracts 3.4 million visitors each year, making tourism the primary industry of Mariposa County. Along with the National Park, visitors to Mariposa County can find fishing, hunting, backpacking, hiking, the California Mining and Mineral Museum, and Gold Rush history. Mariposa County High School is a ninety-nine year old, 9-12 comprehensive high school in the Mariposa County Unified School District.
